Pregnant mothers encouraged to get vaccinated to prevent whooping cough in babies

With a rise in whooping cough cases in the West Midlands, Sandwell Council’s Public Health team calls for all pregnant mothers to be vaccinated to protect their babies from this dangerous illness.

 Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, can be a serious disease, potentially resulting in hospitalisation or even death. Babies are most at risk of developing severe illness. However, mothers vaccinated during pregnancy can help protect babies who are too young to be vaccinated themselves.

Free parking at council town centre car parks on all Saturdays in December

Shoppers will be able to park for free at Sandwell Council’s town centre car parks on all Saturdays in December.

This year, the council is extending its free parking offer for Saturdays in December – which in previous years saw drivers being able to park for free on the two Saturdays before Christmas.

It means parking is now free in all council town centre car parks on all five Saturdays in December.

Sandwell Valley Country Park unveils new cycling routes as part of Commonwealth Games legacy

New bike trails have been opened in Sandwell Valley Country Park and the former Hill Top Golf Course in Birmingham.

They come as part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games Legacy Project, ensuring that the benefits to the local area will last for decades to come, boosting health, inspiring people and enhancing the sports legacy for Sandwell, Birmingham and the wider Black Country.
