Mill Pool Community Orchard
Hateley Cross Big Local Partnership have been working for over 10 years to improve our community for local residents including funding activities, facilities, and improving green spaces. One of the projects we were most proud of was the Mill Pool Community Orchard which was planted earlier this year. This involved planting over 100 trees of various fruit species which would enhance the area providing free produce for the local community. It was part of a wider enhancement of this area to encourage local people to enjoy the space.
We are devastated to have to inform the local community that this weekend over 80 of these trees were stolen. Whilst a small number had been damaged previously, this theft has completely destroyed the idea of the orchard.
This means that local residents will not be able to enjoy the benefits of seeing the orchard reach maturity and future generations will miss out on having this asset in their community.
It has been reported to the Police and if anyone has any information in relation to this theft, please contact either the West Midlands Police directly or through Crimestoppers.
